Health benefits of Persimmon fruit
Persimmon fruit belongs to genus
diospyros. It is a national fruit of Japan, so it is also called Japanese fruit
or Japani Phal in Pakistan. Its high cultivation is in China which produces
about 75% of persimmon. The fruit is grown on tree having height of 4.5-18
meters and is round. Persimmon trees are dioecious as male and female flowers
produce on two separate trees.

There are two typea of persimmon
fruit.

The
types of persimmon depend on tannin production in its pulp and its texture.
Astringent Persimmon
Astringent
Persimmon are categorized as hard fruit that require ripening before
consumption. It is edible only when it is ripen and in soft form. Hachiya
belongs to astringent type of Persimmon. They are more sweeter and juiceier
than non-astringent Persimmon.
How can we ripe astringent persimmon?
Ø We can ripe Persimmon artificially by using ethylene gas
Ø It can also be ripen by wrapping in a paper
Ø It is preferred to be store with ethylene releasing fruits such as
apple, guava and bananas.

Non-astringent means they can be
consumed both in soft and in firm form. Morphologically looks like a tomato
having deep orange color. They usually contain less amount of tannin as
compared to astringent Persimmon.
How
can we remove astringency from Persimmon fruit?
Tannin is responsible for its
astringent taste. It is present in soluble form, when we remove its solubility.
We can remove tannin by freezing it at low temperature and held for some time.
Freezing not only lowers the solubility of tannin but also increase tannin
insoluble content and help in removal of astringency in Persimmon fruit.

benefits of Persimmon
There
are lots of health benefits of eating Persimmon. I will tell you some benefits on the reference of Hakim
Muhammad Tariq Mehmood Chugtai; a founder of Ubqari magazine Lahore. In his
magazine one person states that one person was worried of having diarrhea. There was a place where it was impossible to
find medicine. But in that area there were lots of Persimmon fruit. He
suggested him to eat two Persimmons after every 2 hours. The affected person
did so. He was recovered within two doses and there was no need of taking a
