What is detoxification?
Detoxification is a natural
process that involves cleaning of the body. It is done by the help of liver as
well as kidneys. Through food and drugs, we usually overload our bodies with
toxins. Overloading of toxins results in slow functioning of liver and kidneys
thus; our body requires some external aid to flush out these toxins.
Detoxification eliminates
toxins by the help of skin, liver and kidneys by urine, faeces and sweat.
Detoxification helps in improving blood circulation, reduces inflammation which
is a main cause of many diseases. Detoxification also helps in accelerating
metabolism in the body that reduces cholesterol level, weight and blood sugar
level. There are a variety of detox methods recommended in
alternative medicine and therapies, but there are a few that may be done at
home as well.
Factors affecting detoxification
Detoxification can take place
within a week, but it depends upon two factors i.e. amount of toxins
accumulated in the body as well as detox plan being followed. Detoxification
also increase the immunity of the body. First, avoid the use of carbohydrates,
artificial sweeteners, carbonated drinks, processed foods, fried and oily foods.
Conditions for detoxification
For detoxification say no to
following things for a week. Avoid meat as it requires more time to digest,
carbonated beverages, noodles, chips, biscuits, butter, cheese etc. Limit the
use of fats and sugar. Amount of fat and sugar should not be more 1-2 teaspoon
a day. Have some green tea, avoid coffee and tea loaded with sugar.
Intermittent fasting should be done such that not having food for 14-16 hours. Drink detox water throughout the day. Add cucumber slices, ginger, mint and lemon to make detox water. Drink almost 3.5 to 4 liters of detox water a day. Eat maximum amount of fruits and green vegetables. Have your dinner at 7-8pm. Walk for 30-45 minutes a day. Prefer home cooked food with minimum oil.
