Key Facts Before Using Food as Medicine

It is important to note that not all food items can be used as drugs. For example most of mushrooms are toxic to our health. It may also lead to kidney problems, nausea, hallucination and various others like chemical pills.

Use low spices in food   

We should be very careful before using any food item. As a food gives multi effects to our body, so we only use the combination of foods good for health. If we consume heavy spices in our meal then it is not good for patients suffering from blood pressure, diarrhea, ulcer and piles. So it is recommended to eat food low in spices. For example if we want to treat our ulcer through diet than while cooking any food red chilies, garm masala, and other spices should be used in low quantity as compared to our regular diet.

Use low acidic food                

Because spices are acidic in nature and can cause sore in digestive tract. As a result this would not be effective in treatment of ulcer. Mostly doctors recommended that eating yogurt with some fruits would be helpful in treatment of ulcer. Again keep in mind that yogurt should be of low acidic in nature. Otherwise it would cause more damages than benefits to man.



Consider food sensitivity

Some patients are sensitive to some nutrients, so be careful before recommending any food remedy. For example we cannot recommend milk for a person who is Lactose intolerant. Some types of allergic reaction start due to food sensitivity.  In some cases patient is sensitive to gluten, egg, tomatoes, citric fruits and others. So it is better to ask them about any type of food sensitivity. If we find any type of food intolerance in patients than recommend them an alternative diet having lesser amount of that element. For example we can recommend Lactose free milk to patients having lactose intolerance. Similarly for diabetic patients recommend sugar substitutes like artificial sweeteners.



Make food better in taste

Some foods or weeds are bitter in taste so patients feel hesitate using these remedies. So a nutritionist should keep this fact in mind. If a mixture is not good in taste than patients start to avoid that remedy. It is better to use some type of sweeteners in syrups which have bitter taste.
